Phase Out of Incandescent Light Bulbs

In 2007, the U.S. federal government enacted legislation to make incandescent light bulbs more efficient by setting maximum wattage requirements.
Governments around the world have passed measures to phase out incandescent light bulbs for general lighting in favor of more energy-efficient lighting alternatives. A compact fluorescent lamp (CFL) uses a fluorescent lamp tube which is curved or folded to fit into the space of an incandescent bulb and contains a compact electronic ballast in the base of the lamp. An LED lamp is a light-emitting diode which is assembled into a light bulb for use in lighting fixtures. Some LED lamps are made to be a directly compatible drop-in replacement for incandescent or fluorescent lamps.
